  Is dyslexia holding you back?

At National Home Study, we understand how dyslexia can hold you back, preventing you from achieving the qualifications and recognition you are capable of.

That's why we are the only college in the UK to offer special support for dyslexic students, at no extra charge.

Dyslexia shows itself primarily as a difficulty with written language, particularly with reading and spelling. As many as 1 in 5 of us are diagnosed as mildly dyslexic during our early years at school. Dyslexic individuals often have difficulty with learning the associations between letters and the sounds they make when place together in a word, and they may also reverse or mix up letters when writing.

Although dyslexia causes us to spell or read words incorrectly, it is not an intellectual disability. Dyslexia occurs at all levels of intelligence; sub-average, average, above average, and highly gifted.

Common signs and symptoms of dyslexia are:

Spelling errors — Because of difficulty learning letter-sound correspondences, individuals with dyslexia might tend to misspell words, or leave vowels out of words.

Letter order - Dyslexics may also reverse the order of two letters especially when the final, incorrect, word looks similar to the intended word (e.g., spelling "dose" instead of "does").

Phonetic spelling - Dyslexics also commonly spell words inconsistently, but in a highly phonetic form such as writing "shud" for "should".

Dyslexic individuals also typically have difficulty distinguishing among homophones such as "their" and "there".
